Hi Guys,
Yesterday I watched the premier of the Nate Berkus show, and I really enjoyed it.
Nate made a statement that I have been making to clients for years--every room needs a touch of black.
Black stops your eyes from moving around the room. Your eyes will automatically stop when they come to the black object, and it will give them a chance to rest. Black also adds a little punch to your decor. Plus now that we are decorating with deeper, fall colors, it fits right in.
It is easy to incorporate black into your decor. It is probably already present in your TV or media room because your TV is probably black. You may already have black appliances in your kitchen. If not, add a black vase or display a black plate or tray on your counter.
If you can't afford to buy or recover a chair in black, frame some pictures in black, buy some black throw pillows, a black throw for your bed or sofa, or even a black rug.
There are many ways to introduce the all important color of black into your home.
Another quick tip--home decor colors follow fashion colors. One of the most important colors of the fall season is black. You know the expression, "Brown is the new black, or gray is the new black?" Well, this year, "Black is the new black." Other important colors to keep in mind are camel and green. You'll see them popping up in all your favorite magazines and in showrooms. If you need a new sofa or chair, you may consider one of these colors. Otherwise, just buy a camel colored throw and toss it on your sofa or bed. Both are extremely neutral colors so use them as accessories.
I've included some pictures of some of the ways I used black in my own home.
That's my tip for today.
